Dear Parent/Carer

Welcome back to pre-school. We hope you all had a good Easter break and didn't eat too much chocolate! The staff would like to thank you all for the Easter treats that were given to them before Easter, they were very much enjoyed!

It is amazing how quickly we have arrived at this point of the year. Again, the weather will hopefully be improving and we are hoping to get a lot of use of the two outdoor areas. We are very exciting that tomorrow we will be having the playground re surfaced out the front so please be aware of this whilst you are waiting to drop off and collect at pre-school, whilst this is happening, we won’t have use of the front garden, but we will ensure that we spend plenty of time out the back and I am sure that a lot of the children will enjoy watching the process out the window. Also, a quick reminder at drop off and pick up can you please ensure that your children keep off the play equipment, we ask for this in normal times but it is of paramount importance at the moment to reduce the risk of covid, this play space is shared with little teds and is cleaned thoroughly between sessions.

Hopefully you all saw the email last week regarding nuts, from now on we will be asking that children do not consume nuts whilst at pre-school, if you have any questions regarding this please speak with a member of staff.

School places were announced the other week and I hope that everyone got their 1st choice school. Obviously, the majority of our children will attend Robert Arkenstall and we would normally be working really closely to ensure a smooth transition for your child/ren. However, this will look different this year but please be reassured that we are working with the school to make this as easy as possible looking at the reception class teachers coming to visit us out in the garden.

Activities

Last half term, the children showed lots of interest in the garden and the bugs we found. To build on their interests, we are enjoying ‘a minibeast’ topic half term! We have looked at the life cycle of the Caterpillar, watching our own baby Caterpillars growing and eagerly waiting for them to turn into a Chrysalis. The Butterfly group have grown their own cress seed and Caterpillars and the Caterpillar group made their own Caterpillars using balloons to print circles. Last week the children enjoyed learning lots of ladybird facts, remembering them well for the wow words board. This week we are learning about spiders, the Butterfly group are sewing their own patterns and the Caterpillar children are making spiders from playdough and loose parts. Over the forthcoming weeks, we are looking at Bee’s, snails, tadpoles, and frogs and being

utside in the garden area. We will be moving like minibeasts, waggle dancing and eagerly awaiting our bug hotel, that should arrive in the next few weeks.

Sun hats

Please can children bring a named sun hat with them from this half term, in anticipation for the sunnier weather! It is very important for the children to wear one and be aware of sun safety, and to encourage this all the staff will be wearing sun hats too. Can we also remind you of the importance of applying sun cream too, [please ensure that your child has suncream on before they come to pre-school, children that are attending pre-school all day on a Monday or Wednesday will have sun cream re applied after lunch. This will be provided by pre-school unless your child requires an alternative sun cream due to allergies etc, when we will ask parents to leave a labelled sun cream at pre-school.
